Psalm 19 proclaims that the heavens are telling of the glory of God and their expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Creation is a loud voice of affirmation ringing in our ears and can be blinding to our senses or exploding with revelation. The expanse is incomprehensible. The small mind is limited to itself and has no revelation.

The great potential of the human mind is bound by its own chains. The emeritus holder of the Lucasian Chair exposes this limitation with its definition and its pronouncements. It is recognized as one of the most prestigious academic posts with a stipulation that the holder of the professorship should not be active in the Church. When Christian faith is excluded from study of ancient revealed truth, small foolish ideas remain. Stephen Hawking, the emeritus professor has said, “We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special.”

He is correct that human beings are something very special, but the heavens do not declare the insignificance of man, rather they declare the glory of God!
